http://alabamarealestate.videosmonopoly.com . Alabama Real Estate.

Known as the "Heart of Dixie", Alabama's first European settlement (founded by the French in 1702) was Mobile (the state's only saltwater port).

Fertile lands encouraged settlers to establish cotton plantations in the early 19th century, which became the basis of the state's economy until WWII.

These days of course, Alabama is no longer dependent on agriculture, with diverse economic interests that include banking, aerospace, health care and education as well as car manufacturers and other heavy industries.

Despite still called "The Cotton State", Alabama actually ranks between eighth and tenth in national cotton production.

If you are considering Alabama real estate either as an investment property or residence, you should be aware that the state contains four distinct regions: mountains, metro, river heritage and the Gulf Coast.

The climate is pretty much temperate across Alabama, with only the higher altitudes in the northern section of the state regularly experiencing snow in winter months.

Cities range in size from nearly 250,000 in Birmingham to less than 40,000 in Florence and Gadsden. There are four international and regional airports throughout the state, so air travel to and from the area is direct.

When you've decided on an area of Alabama real estate, such as the state capital of Montgomery, do take time to explore local delights to get a real flavor of the life there.

For instance, drop by the Gaineswood Plantation in Demopolis if possible, as well as Selma, with its civil rights landmarks.

If Jacksonville where you think you might settle, then you should know that at its heart, Jacksonville is a college town, taking pride in its cultural attractions and opportunities.

Certainly the thirty-two miles of the state's Gulf Coast region needs no explanation as to why some visitors never leave, but if you can drag yourself off the pristine white beaches, you'll find real estate from antebellum mansions to care-free condos and well-designed family-friendly homes.
