Verlaines Music Video. Andrew Larkin (1989). The song is called "Anniversary" from "Some Disenchanted Evening". The video was shot on 16mm and developed manually in an old stock tank to give it a look that matched the incredible mood and tone of the song. Andrew Larkin Digital.

  • It's quite unreal how these highly original and quality filled NZ artists seemed to have much such little impact in the years following. A lot of the flying nun material seems to match both the rough trade and sub pop indie outputs of the UK and US.

  • Cheers for uploading this, I've never seen the video before!

  • have been looking for this amazing haunting video since seeing it at Otago Settlers' Museum's exhibition on Dunedin music 13 years ago. The song never gelled with me with just the audio, but after seeing the video it triggered an appreciation of what is now one of my favourite Verlaines songs ... just gorgeous...

  • I just realized that larkytube is the same person who made the video, so if you read this, I want to say thank-you SO much for doing such an unbelievably amazing job of actually being able to capture the mood of this song with this video.

  • I don't know about you guys, but I want to invite Larkytube over to my house and feed him a great big BBQ feast. He's a hero for posting this.

  • Yes, this is "Anniversary". I honestly consider this to be one of the greatest songs ever written, and I don't mean that to be hyperbolic. This song breaks my heart, but then so does much of the Verlaines stuff. This song doesn't really need a video, it's better listened to on it's own, only because there is so much in it to hear. But glad this song has a presence on youtube!

  • great song. great job on the video too- a.

  • bloody great song
