anchor retrieval 101

here is the simple method of using a poly ball and stainless ring to "float" an anchor. This was shot in 200' of water with 350' of rope out, using a 16 lb Mighty Mite reef anchor. It sure beats hand pulling a heavy anchor, and it works with all types of anchors.

I have been running commercial boats since the late 80's. I refuse to go on the hull truth and argue with a bunch of weekend warriors, and people that take their boats out once or twice a month. Have hundreds and hundreds of bottom fishing / anchoring trips under my belt with no accidents. Thanks for the compliments!

This is the craziest, most hair-brained scheme I've seen to retrieve an anchor. The next time I see someone trying to use their anchor like a kite, I'll know why.....

You are clueless......I see you are a blowboater (that explains it) We have been using this method along the south east coast for 20 years. Not everyone has a windlass on a 24' boat

Wow, I can't believe the people talking crap about this method.. ALL of us commercial guys in NC have been doing this for YEARS. I bet they're also the ones who pull up their anchor every time they move to new spot... haha! This guy knows what he's doing, and since there is an elec-tra-mate in the rod holder, ths is how he makes his money.

whats the name of that stainless ring and clip? Would like to order one into Australia... Cheers - this was the vid I have been looking for! Have heard about this anchoring system but wasnt sure how it works.. essentially the water drag pulls the buoy down the length of the rope and catches on the chain?

Interesting way of retrieving the anchor. As an inland sailor and boater I just pull it in, but then water depth rarely exceeds 20m. I think I'll try that out next time I'm on a motor boat, just for fun...

I learned a lot,but i have a pulpid with a windless i like to know if i do the same thing as the video do i tie the rode to a cleat or does i am a litter confused how to handle wiyh a windless please help.

Thanks. I fish off my 22' boat in inland waters where the tidal current can reach 5 knots and strong wind is common. This is absolutely going to work for me.
