Dry County by Bon Jovi
Album: Keep the Faith (1992)

Lyrics:
Across the border they turn
Water into wine
Some say it's the devil's blood
They're squeezing from the vine
Some say it's a savior
In these hard and desperate times
For me it helps me to forget
That we're just born to die

I came here like so many did
To find the better life
To find my piece of easy street
To finally be alive
And I know nothing good comes easy
And all good things take some time
I made my bed I'll lie in it
To die in it's the crime

You can't help but prosper
Where the streets are paved with gold
They say the oil wells ran deeper here
Than anybody's known
I packed up on my wife and kid
And left them back at home

Now there's nothing in this pay dirt
The ghosts are all I know
Now the oil's gone
And the money's gone
All the jobs are gone
Still we're hangin' on

Down in dry county
They're swimming in the sand
Praying for some holy water
To wash the sins from off our hand
Here in dry county
The promise has run dry
Where nobody cries
And no one's getting out of here alive
(Not this time)

In the blessed name of Jesus
I heard a preacher say
That we are God's children
And He'd be back someday
And I hoped that he knew
Something as he drank his cup of wine
I didn't have too good of a feeling
As I head out to the night

I cursed the sky to open
I begged the clouds for rain
I prayed to God for water
For this burning in my veins
It was like my soul's on fire
And I had to watch the flames
All my dreams went up in ashes
And my future blew away

Now the oil's gone
And the money's gone
All the jobs are gone
Still we're hangin' on

Down in dry county
They're swimming in the sand
Praying for some holy water
To wash the sins from off our hand
Here in dry county
The promise has run dry
Where nobody cries
And no one's getting out of here alive

Men spend their whole lives
Waiting praying for their big reward
But it seems sometimes
The payoff leaves you feeling
Like a dirty whore
If I could choose the way I'll die
Make it by the gun or knife
'Cause the other way there's too much pain
Night after night after night after night

Down in dry county
They're swimming in the sand
Praying for some holy water
To wash the sins from off our hand
Here in dry county
The promise has run dry
Where nobody cries
And no one's getting out of here...

Dry county
And no one's getting out of here...

Dry county
No.....

  • has anyone ever listened to this whole song? just wondering

  • @SuperDennyo Me :)

  • @SuperDennyo 10 minutes is nothing!!!! you should look at the band dream theater most of their songs on average are around 20 minutes

  • @FrankiePhoenix I reason why I wouldn't like this band.

  • @TheMusic4Life01 why not? theres nothing wrong with a long song its a really good song. longer songs usually end up being better than the shorter ones, to my opinion (=

  • @FrankiePhoenix i dont like long songs...

  • @SuperDennyo HOW CAN YOU NOT?

  • i was listening this song 10 years ago on this fqqin bus for 2 times along my jurney:)2 times 10 mins plus revinding time.yeah that was what it takes and i get my stop.fqqin memories.

  • @Thedjbj2 i guess you're right... :)

  • @NeXy1996 VEVO didn't shorten anything. They just posted it online. The video uses the commercial single edit of the song. A lot of long songs are shortened when released as a single to make them more commercially viable. This is the version you'd hear on the radio and see on MTV back when they still played videos. Neither of them would want to play a 10 minute song out of fear of loosing listeners' attention and the need for space to play other songs. That is just how them music industry works.

  • @SuperDennyo WHY ?.

  • @SuperDennyo Nepali folk songs often go for more than 30 minutes.......... 10 minutes in nothing........

  • Their best song, period.

  • @80sHardRockLover well said and my full respect to you.

I think Richie Sambora has been part of the most successful band on the planet & over a quarter of a century of new material confirms that?

over the 25 years theres been lots of different styles & sounds, riffs & melodies on their 11 band albums & the 2 solo Sambora albums. I could be wrong but I dont think any other band can claim that? please educate me if im wrong.

u sound 2 know your stuff n wot ur talking about & thnx

  • @Thirst4first agreed...people usually give more credit for really fast guitarrists such as Malmsteen. Okay, not sayin' they are not very damn skilled and talented, but music ain't just about ability...shredding is pretty cool but boring if overused. Richie's got everything that is needed for a guitarrist to be a legend, too bad people find it hard to reckonize that.

  • @80sHardRockLover that's good you have known people to give Richie his credit, whenever I've mentioned Richie Sambora the responces have been negative and just plain ignorant.

Fact is, there is no such thing as a greatest guitar player... each guitarist in any band have their own style & if they weren't good then they wouldn't be where they are.

I never see Richie Sambora in a top 10 or even 20 top guitarists lists or count downs which come on...is absurd when you hear him play
