Need A Job? Find Out Who Is Hiring

Even in these tough economic times, there are companies and industries that are hiring.

One of those industries hiring is health care. About 20 percent of all new jobs in the Kansas City area are in the health care field.

"You've got to take care of sick people and you have to take care of people as they get older," said Clyde McQueen with the Full Employment Council.

Manufacturing is also hiring, particularly highly skilled jobs.

"There's a big need for machinists, even welding is coming back," McQueen told KMBC's Jere Gish.

Construction workers are also in demand, especially for commercial projects.

Utilities are hiring, too.

"People who not only want to climb poles, but also engineers who run the power production facilities, people who man the plant. Big demand for those individuals," McQueen said.

Something to keep in mind with many of these jobs is that training is required.

"You have to have some training beyond high school. You just can't walk out and become a manufacturer overnight," McQueen said.

Training may involve college courses or classes at vocational schools. It might not be as expensive as you think.

"We have a lot of scholarship resources for people that are not income-based because we have people who are increasingly are going to have to go back and retrain," McQueen said.

Experts said that if you are out of a job, use that down time to get further training.

And since the days of working at one place your entire career may be gone, experts recommend to always be prepared for a job transition.
