Taken from the movie version.Music was written by Richard Rodgers, the lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

It was sung by Bloody Mary to her daughter, Liat, about having a happy life.

South Pacific was shot in the Hawaiian Islands, with shots of the tropical Tioman Island off Malaysia's south east coast.

In June 1982, The Damned's guitarist Captain Sensible scored a #1 single on the UK singles chart for two weeks with his version of the song.

  • I came here from Napoleon Dynamite.

  • While I think this movie is a real classic (even though a bit overblown in it's production) I always thought John Kerr was a very odd selection to play the part of Lt. Cable. Would love to know the story behind his selection for the part.

  • 2 Years ago my local town did this and I played Liat. It was sooo much fun and i love this song!!!

  • so funny

  • @MacInnich talk about creeper.....what dark paths does your mind walk down?

  • this seems a little racist , im not sure why though xD

  • extremely terrible

  • @jonesybee33 I'm confused what's going on here.

  • @Lala2616 Indeed...

  • The whole Joe Cable/Liat affair just makes me cringe. Joe Cable is a completely unlikeable, wooden character as portrayed by John Kerr (and looking particularly horny in this scene), it goes to show how far cultural values have changed since the late 40's. Nowadays, Liat's age, not the shape of her eyes, would be the fearsome factor in bringing her back to Philadelphia. Not sorry he died in the least. Creeper.
