This American TV adaptation of Jules Verne's famous novel "Le tour du monde en quatre-vingts jours" - "Around the World in 80 Days" - can't hold with the marvellous movie of 1956, where David Niven played Phileas Fogg. Pierce Brosnan, in his pre-James Bond-days is definitely no match to Niven, and the whole proceeding is either silly or boring most of the time, despite Peter Ustinov as Mr. Fix (again, no match to Robert Newton).

The distinguished members of the Reform Club in this scene leading to the bet were played by Christopher Lee, his old school chum Patrick Macnee, who became deservedly famous as John Steed of "The Avengers", and Simon Ward, who had his first great film role at the side of Peter Cushing in "Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" and received a BAFTA and a Golden Globe nomination for "Young Winston". They re-appear through the movie in very short scenes and for the finale. Their stuff was filmed in one day, in fact.

  • This is the best version of the story ever! Long live CHristopher Lee!!

  • All thee three men's scenes were filmed in a day wow! I really liked Patrick MacNee as John Steed. He also is good friends with Christopher Lee! I actually like Pierce as Fogg than David Niven. He has a more emotion than Niven's character IMHO! I loved Eric Idle of Passepartout. That is when I got interested in him and Monty Python!

  • @TheThing88 it is his best role at the moment

  • Pierce Brosnan = James Bond

    Christopher Lee = M.r Scaramanga
