VERY interesting talk from Dan Dennet on why "free will" is NOT incompatible with "determinism". Very interesting:

  • @mreous333 "Humans are doomed to be free ..."

    Free of what?

  • When you hear the term "free will" you have to realize that to a theist the "free" means "free of any and all deterministic physical influence."

  • @sirchompsalot great quote, although I will guess most people won't know where it's from, it's Metalocalypse look it up its good fun. Anyway that depends on how you view heaven, more so if you believe in some kind of afterlife at all, but I guess christian heaven probably isn't that great, I rather go to Valhalla and while I'm at it if their so called god is omniscient, omnipotent, omnipresent and benevolent why isn't earth a paradise? And since you reminded me back to some Dethklok now

  • Free Will seems to be a plot device similar to the Prime Directive on "Star Trek". Neither is mentioned unless it is integral to the storyline.

  • @HoodieNinjaMe101 God's judgment is a setup since Genesis 3 tells us that He failed to give humans the tools of intelligence & cursed them for gaining it. God is responsible for any result of His creation, especially if we allow the fallacious argument of Him knowing the future. God's plans go awry in the Bible. He is often a blunderer. The fact that God failed to forgive humanity without resorting to bloodshed is a refutation of His benevolence. In fact, it drove Him to commit suicide as Jesus.

  • Humans are doomed to be free because we are responsible for what we do. As long as human will exists, God's Will is subject to frustration. They are irreconcilable. Subordinating your integrity/wlll/responsibility for passive obedience in order to please denies any Christian argument that we have free will. This makes God responsible for the results of the actions of those who follow Him. Human responsibility makes Christianity useless.

  • I'd rather DIE than go to heaven.

  • @RabidApe God forgives thats why before entering into heaven you are judged for all crimes you have done in your life on earth.

  • @SHIBBYiPANDA Then check it out for yourself, I'm not going to rewrite it all here for you, it took many-a-post! There are some things about COD that contradicts itself if applied rigorously. I posted it on the Bitbutter's wall, enjoy!
