I think we'll be able to live in a virtual world, and still manipulate the real world, by downloading our minds into a computer. We will then be immortal. We will still manipulate and expand our dominance over the "real world" however. If anything, this makes the conquering of outer space more within our reach than before.

Yep, what we consider to be a human mind may just change. One running inside a computer, that in turn runs a "robot" in some form that still allows for the manipulation of the real world.  And we can use that to explore space far more easily than in flesh and blood form.

And by conquer, I mean, human minds everywhere, exploring and controlling just about everything, maybe even the Universe itself. We'll remember to be friendlier to any natives we encounter this time we go conquering. :-)
