  • Any Stratos size is great for a long day hike. First, choose whether you want top load in the 36 or 26, or panel load in the 26 and 24. Then think about what you need to carry. More clothing for colder climates generally means more bulk which would net you out on the larger volumes.

  • It's a medium.

  • What size pack is Sam (the guy) wearing?

  • @toneata

    It's a medium.

  • Generally speaking the Atmos is a bit burlier pack intended for long day hikes and in the case of the 50 and 65, backpacking. The Stratos packs are lighter and work best as all around technical day packs.

  • I love my Stratos 36 for it's comfort, durability and functionality. A great pack and awesome customer service.

A couple of things though. My pack does have a tendency to 'squeak' unless I position some light clothing at the top of the load in the right way. I'd use silicone spray but can't really get to the frame.

And given the size of the pack some sleeping pad/bag/tent straps would have been in order. I've rigged mine but I think that would have been a good touch by Osprey.

  • i'm thinking of getting stratos 36, for day hikes!! im sold on the stow on the go pole attachments!

  • I have a Stratos 36 and I overnight with it. You're not going to pack a bunch of groceries and a twin bed to sleep in, but it's capable.

  • @ospreypacks Sorry I meant was it a 24/26 or 34/36?

  • What size would you recommend for some day hiking for around 4-8 hours returning to the car at night.. no overnight camping? Figure some food, jacket, camera, flashlight, medical pack other small accessories? Stratos 36/34 or 26/24? I don't want a huge pack. Thanks guys.
