Uploading this video for an opinion. Doctors say it's tourettes and I feel that the motions could be motor tics related to austism.

  • Right, his doctors have done ton of test and really the results are confusing to me and in doctor terms. It's just hard to see him like this and have it progressivly get worse. I feel like there is no help for him at all.

  • Right, I know his pateral uncle had a severe case of OCD. I would think tourettes too. But many of the schools he attended before his current seem to think these can be controlled. He also has elilepsy too. So I wonder if all might play a part in the frequency.

And DOH'... I spelled Autism wrong!! Let me try and fix that! haha!

  • I have went to the doctor. He's labeled with both. I'm just curious as to what causes the tics.

  • the video is to choppy, i can't tell.

  • Autism has little to do with retardation. I have a great friend who only recently (in his late 20's) has discovered that he's autistic. It's no great surprise to me and some of his friends, because he's different - in a positive sense. He's a nuclear physics major who's extremely quiet, yet who has loads of friends. He's always been quiet, but also always love by his friends. Autistic people are hugely intelligent, but they're not necessarily the best communicators.

  • I have Autism and Tourette's. If this video would have sound I would be able to decide if Tourette's is the cause for the tics.

  • Did this boy ever have anti-psychotic medicine ? It is well known to cause permanent movement disorders and often mis-diagnosed as tourettes.

  • autism is just a medley of certainsymptoms. they are moving away from the terem mentally retarded. but when there is something wrong with the brain does it really make a difference? my sons are diagnosed in the asd. but i dont believe the one is mentally retarded- the other one i believe is. your son appears to be mentally retarded.

  • ...pronounced, then I would say it's autism/Asperger's and Tourette's.

I'm sorry that can't be of more help :(

  • The trouble is, it's too jerky to tell exactly what is going on in this video, so I can't help much on the basis of this :(

Another problem is that austism/Asperger's can include tics and Tourette's syndrome can include Asperger's traits. I would say it depends on which one is more severe. If it's autistic behaviours with a few tics, I'd say autism/Asperger's. If it's many tics and a few relatively mild social problems, I'd say it's more like Tourette's, although if both are quite...

  • The motor tics could be related to Tourette's. ALL neurological conditions, Autism or otherwise, involve tics.

  • another thing is that in autism there are "stereotypies", little mannerisms that have no apparent function. While the tics of OCD or TS are largely automatic the stereotypies are voluntary.
