  • Okay everyone, shut up. You all love to act all smart and informed, but you're really not. Your ignorance betrays you.

The bits shown here have a different action on the horse. IMHO, its kinder to the horse, a sit lets them know exactly what you want! I bit with a little leverage, like the tom thumb or pelham, tells the horse to o down and round. None of this is forcing the horse- I'd like you to find me a horse whom you can force to do anything! Its not an easy way out. It's good riding!

  • a snaffle can be just as severe as a pelham when used in the wrong hands!

  • I agree that slowing your horse down, controlling your horse does come from the body, but in certain cases that is simply not enough, and a pelham can add as and aid to help! (not stating that you can forget about your body and just yank on the horses mouth)

For instance..,, I have a 20yr old jumper..., he's fierce with a big heart and loves to jump....this past year I thought I would give the loose ring snaffle a try, after using my Pelham on him for the past 5....

He goes quite nice in his

  • @TheAxphyxiating It's just harsh then A halter. I have to poll half as much as I did it A bit on this horse. How does it look awful?

  • @chedog08 Bitless is actually just about as harsh as certain bits due to the extreme poll pressure. Plus it encourages the awful looking (and very harsh) seesawing action to get your horse on an outline. No thank you.

  • @eventerkatie84 have you every really tried bit less

  • @TheAxphyxiating ill try him bit less

  • Anyone who says that strong bits equal bad riding have never ridden a super strong horse. I'd like to see you try ride my mad OTTB in a snaffle and see how long that lasts.

  • With the curb chain, do you put it though the middle ring on a pelham ????

    Thanks

  • I've tried all kinds of snaffles on my OTTB and he just needs something that bit stronger to get the message through. Yet my other boy goes well in a french link snaff. Bitting is very case by case, it's not fair to say that every horse should be ridden in a snaff or bitless... At least I know when my strong 17hh OTTB bolts or something goes wrong, I can stop him!

Props to anyone who can ride theirs bitless or snaffle, but I'd rather have more bridle in so I can ride more gently...
