Palau , officially the Republic of Palau (Beluu er a Belau), is an island nation in the Pacific Ocean, some 500 miles (800 km) east of the Philippines. One of the world's youngest and smallest sovereign states. Under Japanese control for the early part of the 20th century until WWII, then administered by the US until its independence in 1994.
Economy is heavily dependent on foreign aid, primarily from the US, Taiwan, and Japan. Infastructure is typically built with donations from sponsoring countries, for example: Japan (Airport), Taiwan (National Museum), US (Central Highway).
A popular tourist destination for Taiwanese and Japanese.
Population ~20,000, split into 12 tribes each with it's own government.
