Senator Chafee was one of the last Republicans that I respected. I still call myself a Republican to honor those of the older generation: Teddy Roosevelt, Henry Cabot Lodge (both of them), Eisenhower, and even Bush Sr.
Despite living on the opposite ocean from Rhode Island, I still proudly have a "Lincoln Chafee for Senate 2006" bumper sticker on my car.
If we want civil discourse--it certainly won't be with Biden on the ticket. especially when he gets rattled and on the defensive---he is impossible. Hillary would have been the preferred choice--but Bill would have none of it apparently. Looking to 2012 perhaps.. as for Linky Chafee--he is a non-starter. Terrible speaker--non-command presence, and a very pathetic soul. What a complete opposite from his father.. a great senator for RI..along w/ John Pastore.
Oh brother...what a poor excuse for a representative from R.I. He rightfully lost the election to Sheldon Whitehouse..and who could blame Rhode Islanders? He really is pathetic--and on preacticallyt every issue..from almost crying when Condy Rice couldn't say "one good thing' about Hugo Chavez, to his pathetic votes on Supreme Ct. nominees, etc., etc. His poor father HAS TO BE TURNING over when listening to Linc's blatherings..
Chafee was a Republican at the time of his reelection. he lost because of that fact. 2006, there was strong anti-Republican sentiment and that's why they lost congress. No surprise he lost in a State that hasn't voted Republican since Reagen.
That said he's still popular here and is a strong canidate for Governer or in the Senate again in 2012.
Chafee will continue to be a pathetic individual politcally--the Republican label is ONLY there because of the great legacy he inherited from his father. Poor John--how he must look down on all of this. R.I. of course will vote Dem for most any election..that's just a fact. However, the fact that little Linky still calls himself that is a non-sequitur. Just his weak and vapid looking appearance makes many shudder. The 2 RI Senate Dems, for now, are just fine. The left is reeling-OK!
