@blackBlindDragon Check out the Gianthamster website for everything you need to know about getting one as a pet. They are demanding and their health is more delicate than you might think. Be sure that your veterinarian is equipped to care for one BEFORE you buy one!

thats not an animal its a fucking giant ass rat, and it looks mighty tasty

@hippopotatomus Actually it turned out it was this local guy who was doing dirty things to my chickens. Why I thought he was this animal I'll never know. I'm not trolling when I say that my farm has a beastiality problem. Theres some strange perverts in my area.

@CarlChipSanders Capybaras are herbivores and would be more interested in your chicken's food! Dobby loves his chicken co-pets, though I have seen him chase them for fun.

@poosaypirate Dobby is hardly an ideal house pet, though he thinks he is! He is gentle and affectionate but wary of strangers- which means almost anyone but me. Capybaras are legal in many areas, but it is important to check your national, state, county, and city laws and ordinances. Even local homeowner's associations can have rules regarding exotic pets. Capybaras need to swim and they need to graze. They need a securely fenced yard and shelter from the cold.

@T97Frida Thank you! Dobby is basically a happy guy. I hear from many people who think they want one but who have no clue what they are getting into. The last thing I want to do is encourage people to get a challenging pet they really can't care for properly.

@SwordOfTheRaven nope capybaras have been around for years :D
I guess that's animal cruelty since those are tropical animals

@armba12113 Dobby has his own heated barn and can visit the poultry in their cozy barn. He has access to the kitchen and can open the door to come in by himself. When the night temperatures dip toward 20 degrees f, I set him up to sleep in the kitchen, though he seems to prefer his heated barn.

Is this a Caipivara from the Pantanal?

@Scarr420 Dobby was born in Nacogdoches, Texas. He is the 3rd generation born in the USA, so not imported from the wild.

i need one of these guys asap. Are they noisy/do they smell really bad? I could take care of one of them but if they smell like a skunk I can't do it.

@adibson Capybaras have little or no odor and are very quiet but they are not easy to care for. They need to swim and graze and need protection from winter cold. Check out the Capybara Madness website, Gianthamster, for more information. Make sure you have a veterinarian who can help you care for one. They are more delicate than they look.
