  • the absolute morality you seek is really governed by society as a whole, not a book. morality changes with society, as you don't stone disobedient children anymore. you need to take a step back from your judeo-christian morality and realize that other non-christian societies like japan have some of the lowest crime rates in the world. we don't even have to look outside our own country to see this. atheists are disproportionately under-represented in the prison population...

  • good morning. i dont mean to say that atheists are immoral, only that they have no logical basis for their morality. The defense of the nazi war criminals at Nuremberg was based on positive law, which is exactly wha you are advocating. the 24 nazis broke no laws and could not be prosecuted. The prosecution was bsed on higher law. please see C.S.Lewis, Mere Christianity, for discussion regarding instinctive, or evolutionary morality dan

  • If I burned your bible would all your morals go up in smoke?

  • The basis of morality has never come from a book or anything external from oneself. The basis of morality for a Christian is the same basis of morality for an atheist. A Cristian choses to follow the Bible or God's word on what basis did they base their decision on? The same moral basis as an atheist does for any moral decision. Morality is something which transends religious dogma.

  • There wasn't a written law, so the world decided that it was detrimental to society and punished them accordingly. You may think it's supernatural law, I think it's just our nature (evolution). From Evolution of Empathy: "..monkeys refused to pull a chain that delivered food to themselves if doing so gave a shock to a companion. One monkey stopped pulling the chain for 12 days after witnessing another monkey receive a shock. Those primates starv[ed] themselves to avoid shocking another animal"

  • it seems you guys are confusing amorality with atheism. you don't need a written code or book to obtain morals. it's not exclusive to humans, even monkeys can be moral. for example, they share food to avoid conflict. they've been shown to cooperate, empathize, reconcile, and console. they even have an equivalent to "police" in their societies who can punish or outcast someone. if they didn't cooperate with the group, that would hinder their chances survival. this is evolutionary morality.

  • atheists reject god's existence out of fear because they're afraid of being responsible or accountable? absurd. you are an atheist to many other gods like the greek gods (see teapot atheist), we just take that one god further (in this case yahweh). are you personally afraid of the wrath of zeus? of course not! you can't forget that as an atheist's rejection, your god isn't the only one in town.

  • excellent!
