Summer 2008 and a visting preserved BR tank engine hauls a two coach all stations special from Sandsend to Scarborough via Whitby, England. We join the train at Sandsend station and follow it across the distintive viaducts of this scenic coastal route towards Whitby. After stopping at Whitby West Cliff we proceed south across Larpool viaduct towards Scarborough, stopping at every station.

Sadly of course the line north of Whitby closed in 1958 followed by the Whitby to Scarborough branch in 1965.This video attempts to show in 8 minutes27 seconds the scenic highlights, as well as a look at every station.

The route is the superb Yorkshire Coast route, obtained from www.uktrainsim.com.

  • Brilliant, how can someone not give you full marks? Perhaps for the M7 in Yorkshire, but who cares?

  • Why thank you. Some people are a little sad, it's true.

The engine isa preserved BR engine (as it says in the description). I wasn't aware of a Politburo command forbidding the visit of an "M7" to Yorkshire! Eee by gum.

  • Absolutely terrific! This is a heavenly trip. I first travelled between Boosbeck and Whitby [West Cliff] in the spring of 1953 [two coaches, A8 motive power], and between 1955-6 I had a number of trips on this line. The first time I travelled on the Whitby [Town] to Scarborough line [DMU] was in the summer of 1959 and, again, I had a number of trips on this line between 1959 and 1963.

Many congratulations to the genius who created this masterpiece - well done!

  • this is great

    love it

  • You must have Rail Driver?

i still like to dust my MSTS from time to time - but prefer TS2012 now I am used to it.

  • @maggielizzieannie Just the way it's been marshalled :) No specific reason.

  • @IvanMorgan1966 ya bugga

  • nice

  • It's great! It's a real pity this railway no longer exists, seeing as how the bus service between Whitby and Scarborough is rubbish, but can anyone tell me why the engine is facing backwards?

  • I hate these train simulator clips, but this one's a bit more like it, as it depicts a line that's long gone!

  • Well done you, thoroughly enjoyed it!

  • 5:27- Mind the gap!

  • The sad omission about railway preservation is that there is no major route which has a coastal cliff top feel to it. So many railways are like clones of each other ie the Wensleydale and NYMR have similar scenery, whilst some like the East Lancs & Peak rail seem bland. Maybe one day, somebody might think about the Redcar-Boulby freight only line and re-instating it to Slaithes...what a line that would be...

  • from what i heard they extending the track to malton sometime in near future so u can catch a train from scarborough - whitby via malton
