Realizing that the forearm block that they have learned will not be enough to win them the fight, Jason and Bill opt to add a punch to their arsenal of Karate moves.

  • There is sadly not a lot of mutual respect between Karate and Boxing. No doubt the young lad learned his katas to a tee and thereby earned his belts. He also learned a valuable lesson in humility and respect that day. His skill level was clearly no match for your 21 years experience in the school of hard knocks. Don't assume however that the outcome would have been as one sided with an opponent who had 21 years of karate experience. Otherwise you might make the same mistake as the kid.

  • in shotokan karate, at least, gyaku zuki, is the punch with the back hand, without step, but i don´t think this is shotokan...and, the bald gave the punch absolutely wrong, and the animation is wrong too, if u wanna see a good karate punch, searh for Kagawa or yamada sensei videos in youtube.

  • @gbatemper123 Well ironically today we just went over the vital points that could be potentially fatal if striked correctly like the base of the skull or the orbital bones. I don't know which instructors you refer to but mine over at SKA occaisionally go over the lethal vital points we just don't allow full contact to those areas.

  • @bournechupacabra Yes, I know. Karate is actually one of the best martial arts for self defense. But the instructors need to actually teach the deadly techniques (which most do not), because some practice for SERIOUS self defense, and not just tournaments.

  • @gbatemper123 OK well by real world I mean usually self defense situations.

  • @bournechupacabra I'd honestly say Karate has weakened in terms of techniques possibly more useful in the "real world" (Eye gouging, throut strikes, groin strikes) because of tournament rules and regulations.

  • @LCStreetPhotographer I don't think that you beating one karate student makes karate impractical. While most of karate is technique and form, I have learned various applications that one could use in the "real world". idon't know what karate this is or the guy you faced was but in shotakan karate we practice towards ending fights with one technique and making counter attacks right as your oppenent attacks.

  • .....continued.... I don’t think I’ll be going back there any time soon, even if I’m invited. If I had one piece of advice for this gentleman or any aspiring fighter for that matter, it would be this:Go for Boxing..Do your sit-ups and your roadwork, and watch some of Mickey Ward’s fights.Where I come from the only belts that matter say things like “MIDDLEWEIGHT WORLD CHAMPION” on them and you gotta earn those the hard way. “No teammates, no timeouts, no place to hide”. Who can argue with that?

  • ...continued 2...i slipped one of his haymakers to my left and countered with a tight left hook to the guys body..Now, I was being pretty kind here as I kept my hands loose inside my gloves and just threw with the intention of making contact. Think of tapping here folks, not hammering! Anyways, it didn’t matter; he went down like a bag of dirt. I was so shocked that my soft pedaling body punch dropped him that I just stood there for a second, he was right…I truly was dazzled!...continued

  • Karate is so impractical in the real world, in a live self defence situation. I remember visiting a karate gym, to give it whirl (im a boxer by the norm...21 years experience) and at the end a guy, one of the instructors, a younger lad, decided to make an example of me by challenging me to a session..he spent 5 mins explaining to the class how i would be dazzled and defeated by his technique. An attempt to prove the inferiority of boxing..it lasted about 6 seconds..i slipped........continued...
