Artist: Primus
Album: Suck On This
Year: 1989
Track# 6
Track Name: "Tommy the Cat"

Les Claypool - bass guitar, vocals
Tim "Herb" Alexander - drums
Larry "Ler" LaLonde - guitars

"I remember as if it were a meal ago.."

Said Tommy the Cat as he reeled back to clear whatever foreign matter may have nestled its way into his mighty throat.
Many a fat alley rat had met its demise while staring point blank down the cavernous barrel of this awesome prowling machine.
Truly a wonder of nature this urban predator.
Tommy the cat had many a story to tell,
But it was a rare occasion such as this that he did.

"She came slidin' down the alleyway like butter drippin' off a hot biscuit.
The aroma, the mean scent, was enough to arouse suspicion in even the oldest of Tigers that hung around the hot spot in those days.
The sight was beyond belief.
Many a head snapped for double - even triple - takes as this vivacious feline made her her way into the delta of the alleyway where the most virile of the young tabbys were known to hang out.
They hung in droves. Such a multitude of masculinity could only be found in one place...
And that was O'malley's Alley.

The air was thick with cat calls (no pun intended),
But not even a muscle in her neck did twitch as she sauntered straight into the heart of the alley.
She knew what she wanted.
She was lookin' for that stud bull, the he cat.
And that was me.

Tommy the Cat is my name and I say unto thee...

"Say baby do you ya wanna lay down with me,
Say baby do ya wanna lay down by my side.."

  • Even slowed to basically a halt, this song still blows everyone out of the water

  • @TheAchyliam I wanna hear it slowed-d! :O

  • @ThrobnWood Compared to the sailing cheese version this is really slow, that's what i mean

  • @TheAchyliam Oh, of course :> Though I just like to think of this version as pure, undiluted awesome juice.

  • @ThrobnWood I prefer the cheese version just for pure speed, it's fucking ill how hard it is, the whole riff is 16th note triplets which are hard to pull of cause you've gotta be really consistent and extremely fast, not to mention the solo 0.0

  • @TheAchyliam It's Herb's drumming for me. This version really shows how him & Claypool are the tightest bass/drum combo around :> I'm a drummer myself, & I've always said Herb is the Claypool of drumming. These two were made for each other, & this recording is just dribble-worthy :d

  • @ThrobnWood I'm not a drummer so I wouldn't know. Live he's very good, and the intro to eleven in pretty nuts. I am however, a bassist and I can tell you every goddamn song on seas of cheese goes from fairly simple (bastards, tweekers) to reasonably hard ( jerry, sgt. baker) to FUCKING INSANE (Tommy, Fish on)

  • My boyfriend loves this song

  • @MyAssHasWorms Have you listened to The Who's "Live at Leeds"? It definitely gives competition to this one! :-)

  • @MyAssHasWorms Most certainly.
