My dog is a show dog. But first off she is a pet and a friend. I do think we need change in some breeds to give them a better life. But it's not right to make people think all show dogs are miss treated. Only 1 in every 1000 people put showing before health, and if I ever meet that 1 I will be having words . Nice video :)

Great video! Anybody that's owned a Weim knows there's no way to own one and not look at them as a member of the family!

@koala8 and how do you think it could be done? it's utopia...

the documentary was not about people not loving pedigree dogs( it was the other way round to be exact) but it was about BREEDERS who do tis for living and only care about the profit... and they DO exist and there is enough of them to be concerned....

i think we should slowly breed the domestic dog back with the dingos and the wolves and release them all back into the wild, give them back their natural independence

Your Daschound is extremely cute, but the breeder who bred him took no account of the back and leg problems, along with the paun and dysfunction they will cause. When your dog is in so much pain and has such grave disability that you have no choice but to euthanize him, your love of the breeder will wane. Sorry but it's true.

The documentary wasn't an attack against owners.
You wouldn't scold a child for doing something wrong when they aren't aware what they're doing is wrong.
It was made as a way to open owners and breeders eyes to the reasons WHY their beloved pets are sicker than their predecessors.

I wouldnt say that to her as if she is the one that has caused all the pain that the bad breeders have. I bet if her daschund turned up with a hereditary disease she wouldnt breed him, and would work on breeding her healthier dogs.

I would think no matter what you would love your dog. :) But some of the dogs have been bred so far off of what they are used for. :( That weimaraner. Anyways liberty the weimaraner says hi!

most of the dogs are loved, but theres the odd bellend doing everything, i bred a litter litter of boxers a couple years ago, ridiculous amount of helth check's, home visits, and a lot of homes were refused pups coz i didnt trust the people, oh and none of em lost theyre tails coz its twisted cutting em off, so the one we kept would probably be worst in show coz hes natural. i dont dissagree with showing dogs but i do dissagree with some rules in the show standards.

I don't understand what you're getting at here.

Are your dogs health tested? Are they temperament tested? Are you aware of the health problems in double merle dogs and ensuring that your dachshund doesn't produce double merle litters? A lot more than just giving a dog personal attention goes into being a responsible breeder, cute pictures don't prove anything other than that you appear to treat your dogs kindly which is fantastic but says nothing about whether or not your dog should reproduce.
They are the head of the sole organisation that governs dog breeding, if they are not respected, then owners and breeders alike should have a say in who is their figure head is. Responsible owners appear to be in the minority, that is what needs to change.

The clips were severely edited and all the talk about the hard work and responsible things people are doing to counteract the bad was cut as this does not make sensationalist tv.
And yes, I wholeheartedly agree that all people should only breed responsibly but when will that happen? What about the puppy farms and people who breed to line their pockets? They are the ones doing more damage than anyone else.

Responsible breeding? Was that not the HEAD of the Kennel Club and some of the 'most respected breeders' with regard different breeds that were interviewed? I take it that you do not believe that they are responsible breeders then. It is not a discussion of 'healthy breeds' or not, the issue is that dogs that have confirmed genetic problems and physical problems are being breed from. What that programme was trying to hi light was that people who are in positions of responsibility

No they were not the 'most regarded breeders' at all. This is what the programme led you to believe. A responsible breeder would never breed from a defective dog, a dog with health problem or cull any healthy puppies and people who do are in the vast minority.

This was not about dog breeders not 'loving' their dogs, but being naive in the fact that what they deem ' correct' is actually causing the dogs pain and suffering. And for what exactly, because you think that they look 'cute'. Dogs have been interbreed for aesthetic purposes, and not for the betterment of the breed. They look the way they do because YOU want them to. Not because that is what is the best for them. Would you do that to another human being? So why do it to a helpless animal.

Clearly by stating this comment you have no IDEA what goes on in the world of RESPONSIBLE breeding! The programme did exactly as it intended to do, which was to brainwash those who didn't know any better.
Out of interest, what breed would you class as a healthy breed?
