It is a Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi wassallam) to look for the Hilal on 29th day of every lunar month throughout the year (to establish the Islamic Lunar calendar), as commanded by Allah in the Quran (2: 189).
On Friday 25th April 2009 (29 Rabi ul-Thani 1430 AH) the moon will be one of the youngest crescents that may be possible to be seen in the UK. Most of the year, it is in the Southern Hemisphere and we do not get to see it until 1 - 2 days later.
Please try to observe the Hilal on the western horizon (~295 deg from North) immediately after the Magrib (sunset) prayer and report your sighting to the Islamic Crescent Observation for UK(ICOUK) group. Email: ICOUK[at]icoproject.org
