Portal 2 Review

When Portal was first released it became an instant classic, and now, Valve's latest game is more than just a plain puzzle shooter; it has some of most innovative game play mechanic seen in years, and some of the best writing in video game history. Portal 2 picks up right where the first game ended and builds on the experience tenfold. You will find yourself once again within the walls of the Aperture Science facility with a new AI partner, and almost immediately you'll be blasting portals anywhere and everywhere in order to solve different puzzles and mazes that the insane computer from the first game, GlaDOS, throws at you.

The best thing that can be said about Portal 2, is that it is pretty much the same game as Portal, but the gameplay elements have been given a once over and you are given better opportunities to explore the world you are in. Everything in the game looks and feels better. From the puzzle design to the witty dialogue; and beginners won't have any problems easing into the game as the opening sequences are a great examples of how a tutorial should be embedded into game play. Portal 2 also has a cooperative mode, and honestly, nothing beats opening the ground underneath a friend to send them to their doom.

There really isn't much going against Portal 2. The opening hours may be a bit slow for Portal veterans but it automatically addresses this problem by giving the players an entirely different setting that echoes the old game but still feels fresh and different.

Portal 2 is able to carry on the legacy of the first game, remaining somewhat very similar in formula, but the overall presentation and polish puts it miles ahead of the predecessor. Portal 2 builds on everything the first game was able to deliver without compromising a single detail.
