  • Hi, I run debian6.03 on an older computer and have pretty much the same problems with symantic , you have to give your root password and then ;;nothing happens i can't update !! i am new to linux so i don't know anything of commands, sudo and stuff .shoud i re-install ? or wait for the next debian thanks

  • @geertvdh1

hhmmmm. strange... I can't remember now if i had that problem or not LoL

but try opening a terminal, "su" password then "aptitude update"

That will update your system... try synaptic next time to see if it is working again I guess

  • I run Debian testing on a few of my computers and it's working really well ^_- As far as Debian Mint I think it's great idea :) Perhaps I will try the next version of Debian Mint when the bugs are worked out. Thank you for sharing the "in detail" problems that you had. Very good review mate :) I'm sure your helping allot of people ^_-

  • @TheGeo913

thanx man. I try to be non biased and report on the positive and negatives of distros I try.

    cheers :d

  • Linux Mint is really cool, although I prefer to have an option to actually remove Firefox without also removing "Linux Mint artwork" ...

LMDE would be cool as well, but it kinda crashed after upgrading.

  • @ytuser13082011

didn't know that removing firefox removes mint artwork? o_0

    never tried

  • @Technoobzdotcom Try the following in terminal. sudo apt-get install nvidia-glx, sudo apt-get install nvidia-settings, sudo apt-get install nvidia-xconfig, REBOOT, sudo nvidia-xconfig, LOGOUT, sudo nvidia-settings

  • I've been wanting to use this version but i can't seem to get my Nvidia Graphics card to work at all...so until than I'll have to stay on a 6 month release

  • @Linux4UnMe You do a great job mate! Yeah I've checked out your videos and I enjoy the way you point out the goods and the bads of the distros ^_-

  • @Linux4UnMe - I forgot to mention I run Mint XFCE. Gnome is probobly more modularized.
