This trailer was produced to test the high-definition capabilities of Canon's affordable XH-A1 video camera. The XH-A1 can shoot at 24F, 30F and 60i frame rates at 1080i resolution, and is ideal for independent filmmakers and documentary producers. In addition, the Fig Rig stabilizer, developed by film director Mike Figgis (Leaving Las Vegas, Timecode), was used for most of the handheld cinematography that is featured. The Fig Rig is highly recommended for those that cannot afford Steadicam equipment, but desire handheld maneuverability and stability.
The visual style of the trailer is inspired by the works of Michael Mann (Collateral, Miami Vice, Heat) who has, since 2001's Ali, been experimenting with and perfecting high-definition digital cinematography in mainstream filmmaking. His next effort, Public Enemies, starring Christian Bale and Johnny Depp, will utilize the Sony F23.
Other mainstream filmmakers that have been spearheading the digital revolution include David Fincher (Zodiac, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Danny Boyle (28 Days Later..., Slumdog Millionaire), Steven Soderbergh (Che, The Informant), George Lucas (Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, Planet Terror).
what camera is this? I'm thinking about getting a Canon Vixia HF200.
