@jaxnscar Pech have never been stocked. These are wild fish,which are Gov. regulated,. Fish stocks are calculated every year in Lake Erie by Ontario, New York State,Pennsylvainia,Ohio and Michigan .Then quotas are set for anglers in all states and Canada.Then our quotas are set. We are boarded every day when we return to harbor ,by Game Wardens ,who calculate catch in pounds and subtract it from allowed perch for the year.. Lake Erie is alive and well.

If your so educated, perch are not bottom feeders, they feed on small fish and plankton.

It is easy to sit at your computer and blame legal commercial fishing, for your lack of knowledge as an angler.If there are no fish in Lake Erie, how do we catch them???

I recreational fish and we hammer the perch but you guys just destroy them with those gill nets, so funny. All you guys bitchin about it do you have any knowledge about fisheries perch reproduce so fast and in some places are considered nusince fish. That is why fishing regulations are set to keep healthy populations and if they allow gill netting they sure must not be in trouble population wise.

@jaxnscar I too used to be a commercial fisherman. Lake Erie is managed very well by the United States and Canadian ministries and departments of natural resources. All other lakes that do not have such stocks are either mismanged or just cnnot sustain the particular fishery. I now have a small recreational boat of my own and fish with rods. You have to remember that not everyone can afford a boat to go to where the fish are, and fish are not always available from shoreline!

I love to eat perch. I will not buy any if they are harvested in that manner. It's unfair that a few individuals get that many perch. What if I brought my boat in with that many? I'd be in handcuffs. Recreational fishing generates much more money in the economy than commercial fishing but they always get preferential treatment. In Jersey the size limit for summer flounder is 18". For netters it's 14". You can fish all day and catch 50 fish 16 and 17" and maybe a couple keepers. Just not right.

when you go to your local food store and u see all the fish for sale, this how they catch them!!. lake erie is a massive lake!! theirs billons of fish in there. whats the big deal, pepole love to eat fish!! i too work on a gillnet tug on lake huron .don,t put these boys down about things u knowjack shit about.this kind of fishing dosen,t happen every day.many days we work all dam day and catch a pail of fish and make no money.keep your comments to yourselfs until u have all the facts.these guys have some sore hands after that lift.

@tyhatts you're an idiot lol yeah juvenile fry will feed on zooplankton but perch are carnivores and yes they are 100% bottom feeders, and these people are catching these fish so they can make a living, the DEC and government carefully monitors and regulates perch populations to ensure that people can still fish like this without depleting the overall population do a little research before you questions another mans living
