Video of the climate conrol in my paludarium. A paludarium is something between an aquarium and a terrarium. Mine is 100cm high, and has 30cm water in it (with foureyed fish). This video shows an accelerated example of halogen- and led-lighted nighttime, dawn, daytime. Then follows thunder and rain, followed by daytime again, dusk, and once again night. In the final part of the video the red "spying light" is enabled (fish do not see red light). Finally the submerged spot (cyan and green) is switched on to a 100% then dims again.

I get a lot of questions on the technical side of things. You can look at http://paludarium.xhd.nl for more technical details about the contruction (in dutch but the pictures should give you an idea). The high-level controlling application sends out data which can be viewed at http://www.paluweb.nl .

  • Hi, you can find a lot of detail on the site that I originally built for my paludarium at paludarium.erikensusan.nl (unfortunately in Dutch) . I am now working on version 2 of the paludarium, which is in english. You can see it at paluweb.nl

  • Dude, awesome Paludarium. Did you learn how to set this up all from that Dutch site? Where can more information be found. I've got a planted nano (which can be found on here), but I've been doing research for Palu's. Subscribed.

  • @Sklujan Do you mean the Dutch site paludarium dot xhd dot nl? Because that is the site I created when building this paludarium. Actually I am now thinking on a version 2 of the paludarium... Some things still not as I'd want them.

  • Hi, Inside I currently have:

    4 Four-eyed fish (Anableps anableps);

    25 Glow Light Tetras (Hemigrammus erythrozonus);

    10 Bronze Corydoras (Corydoras Aeneus);

    12 Pristella's (Pristella Maxillaris);

    2 keyhole cichlid cichlides (Aequidens/Cleithracara maronii);

    6 Bumblebee Catfish (Microglanis iheringi);

    4 Drab soles (Achirus achirus).

  • @batlady2: Thank you for your kind words. Yes it is amazing to see. Every day is different. I have been planning on adding sound, but since the paludarium itself has no PC next to it I have to build a separate unit in hardware (or add an entire PC :O ) that can play sounds (and mix them) using the same controlling logic... That is quite some work on its own. As soon as I add sound, I'll surely upload a new video!

  • What kind of fogger do you use?

  • Really cool setup, I'm jealous! :)

  • Excuse me Sir, but your fishes are lagging...

  • i love these, how much for a decent sized paludarium setup(without live stock, that's very subjective).

  • I'm sure you've already been asked about the lighting aspect,and if you've already answered my question,feel free to point me in the right direction on finding it rather than explaining yourself again.How exactly have you achieved the dimming effect? The way you have re-created dawn,daytime, and dusk is a very cool finishing touch,one I wish to somewhat replicate myself. Any feedback is much appreciated. awesome setup..defiantly.

  • i dont know if any1 noticed the lightning....thats very creative i havent seen that before

  • @EriksPaludarium Yeah that site. Well, is there a way you can translate the site into English, or just do an English version when you do another paludarium? I'm at a loss for information. I might as well learn some more languages just for the information. haha
