For Sha-Rock, is a collaborative video project created by visual artist Ayanah Moor and filmmaker April Martin. The work is a tribute to Sha-Rock, one of the earliest female rappers and member of the 80s popular group Funky 4+1. For Sha-Rock memorializes the role of beatboxing within hip hop expression and shifts today's problematic readings of the culture as solely a male centered practice.
Word, thanks for the post fo real tho! My first memory of Sha-Rock was on the track "Thats the Joint". I heard this female just flowing with nice rhymes and a sexy voice. I said to myself Daymm, If i could meet her it would be nice as ice. Anyway, thank you and its wonderful that someone is giving much respect to one of the greatest emcees of hip hop nation.
Peace and Hotep
