Gibson Les Paul Custom Marshall 4010 combo Boss OD-3 DM-2

Here is a demo of my 1978 Les Paul Custom - I've modified the wiring of the tone controls so when they are set on 10 they cancel one of the coils, making the pickup single coil, and from 9 to 0 they act as a regular tone control (humbucking). This will give you the possibility of some brighter, clearer tones that you can't get with a humbucker. The pickups are a DiMarzio PAF in the neck and a Seymour Duncan JB in the bridge. Just stabbing at a few hooks so you can hear the tonal differences.

Can you tell me how you do that modification? I literally JUST bought one, and that sounds sick as hell. And do you know if anyone else would know how to do it?

I had an amp repair technician do it several years ago. Any qualified amp tech should be able to make that change for you.

I don't know that it's online. You need a humbucker with 4 conductor wiring. Example (DiMarzio) would be red wire is hot, green is ground, black and white are the other 2. Looking at the tone pot, shaft down/posts toward you, solder the black and white to the left post, the center post is ground and the tone cap from the volume control connects to the right post. 0-9 on tone control is normal tone/humbucker, 10 is single coil.

Love the single-coil tone control mod. Amazing versatility! Are there any wiring diagrams or documentation online about this mod? Is it conceivable that you could mod a new Epi Les Paul Ultra 2 in the same way?

I bought my 78 Black Beauty Custom new in 79 for $636.00. I love my guitar after all these years. I had two Ibanez Les Paul Copies before I had money for the real deal. They were ok but actually they sucked. Not even close to the best in the world. GIBSON!!!
