The beluga whale is a small, toothed whale that is white as an adult.
Beluga means "white one" in Russian.

It is estimated that there are about 40,000 to 80,000 beluga whales world wide. St. Lawrence, Cook Inlet, and Alaskan belugas are classified as endangered. Belugas are threatened by pollution (DDT, PCB's, etc.) in estuary waters that they frequent and breed in.

They have the most sophisticated bio sonar of all.

  • @jylforsyth Dont be so foolish. Did you know most zoo and aquarium animals are born at zoos? They dont know what the ocean is. They tried to "free" Keiko (Willy in the movies) and he wound up starving and dying of pnemonia. These animals live comfortable fulfilling lives, with all the food they want, vet care, and a team of servants (trainers) to wait on them 24-7. You wouldn't know what a beluga is without zoos. So unless you want to free all the dogs, cats, goldfish etc. in the world. shut up!

  • omg they look so chill! I wanna be a beluga now :(

  • belugaaaa

  • I love belugas they are sooooo cute

  • @BlackOrb458 YOU ARE A FOOL. go watch "the cove" i freaking DARE YOU. most animals are purchased by zoos.

dogs and cats are domesticated. beluga whales are not. i should keep you in a 20x20 bedroom your whole life. i bet it would be comfortable. you could walk in circles. no worries, they'll be food too. it'll be fun.

  • Still, I really enjoyed this video. The belugas brought a smile to my face (:

  • @BlackOrb458 I am not an animal activist nut/extremist and I do approve of zoos because I think what you said was exactly right - we wouldn't get to see a lot of animals without zoos. However I think the key issue here is to keep animals that can cope with captivity, and it is arguable that beluga whales aren't doing well in aquariums. And for the record, you can't compare dogs, cats and goldfish to beluga whales because they are domesticated pets who respond well to captivity.

  • @BlackOrb458 As for Beluga Whales, according to a report published by World Association of Zoos and Aquariums, most belugas found in aquaria are caught in the wild, as captive breeding programs have enjoyed little success. As of now, only TWO beluga whales have been successfully bred in captivity at the Vancouver Aquarium.

  • @BlackOrb458

It is true that Keiko wound up starving because she was in captivity for so long and she didn't know how to fend for herself anymore. However, it isn't true that most aquarium animals are born in captivity. In fact, SeaWorld has been the only organization that has been relatively successful in getting killer whales to breed in captivity... the rest of the aquariums in the world still obtain their aquarium animals by capturing them from the wild.

  • FREE the Belugas !!!! They don't deserve be captives.

  • tell me dyz aint cute
