That looks and sounds alot like the top levered Southern 3 Chime. Those Diamond stacks were ok but not my favorite. Mitch told me on a cab ride that they were put on the locomotives to reduce the coal soot and added decor.

post number 2: It was so successful cinder complaints dropped by half. Later they outfitted the 70 and 192 with different type of screens in the smokebox and fabricated boxes in the bottom of the smokeboxes on both locos that did almost the samething ,but they use the original exhaust stack that should be on the locomotives.The finer screen let the smoke out but forced the cinder into the traps at the bottom of the smokebox which were cleaned out each day.It a better firing and steaming engine.

The truth is the stacks did serve a purpose. Because of complaints from visitors to the park about getting cinders in folks eyes even with the warning that cinders were the norm for a coal burning steam locomotive.So the shop guys designed a stack that was based on the old shay designs without the screens on top. The inside had baffles that caused the smoke to swirl inside. On each chuff the smoke would exit but not the cinders.They dropped to the botton and were cleaned out each day.

@bcschmerker It Is a Coal Burner, but the stack Was Just for Looks, not for any Real Purpose

Is #70 a coal-burner? It's possible that fire regulations may have forced use of a Radley-Hunter or similar stack, a type common on late-19th-Century wood-burners, for spark arrestment.

that looks weird the diamond stack looks like a balloon stack mixed with the diamond stack :P i personly liked here straight stack

@Chris9017 Traditional? 70 Never carried one in Alaska... And Neither did 192..
-
@SuperTerminatrix I agree with you, and besides I like the balloon stack, it makes her look more traditional.

@baldwinloco12 i know!
hey baldwinloco12, I think that # 70 would not like you making fun of her. I am pretty sure she has carried your ass many of time up that mountain so lay off of her because her diamond stack looks just fine on her!!!!!!

@SuperTerminatrix, why don't you try and calm down it's just my opinion on my video. I just happen to like historically accurate engines and that stack was far from it. There are other ways to make cinder catchers without making them huge. And apparently i'm not the only one who felt that way considering they removed it.

i actually like that stack on 70 it looks cool but i dont like it on 192 or the tweetsie engines worst thing tweetsie did was put the phony stacks on

I did not care for it, I thought it looked ridiculous, the stack was nearly as big around as the boiler
