If you have a fast connection and want to see this in high quality video to see the notes clearly (and improved audio), add the letters &fmt=18 straight after the existing internet address line above.
Ave Maria - jazz piano improvisation. First piano solo, then with a simulated bass and drums. A (much better) version is available (free) at http://web.newsguy.com/dougmck
along with a lead sheet, a transcription, and the midi file recorded with the video

  • You are wrong.

This was improvised just from a leadsheet (melody with chord symbols only. If you had read the information on the video, you would see that the transcription was of my improvisation - I recorded it as a midi file as I recorded the video and a computer program later translated the notes I was playing into (more or less) readable notation and I added these to the video.

  • great commentary; real good stuff for beginners especially who have some background in music theory to look over and learn some common patterns of improv

  • Wow, I love this video. Many people put beautiful music on YouTube... far fewer also explain what they are doing as they go. The comments you put on the various passages and techniques are really interesting, thank you so much for this! And it goes without saying that I like the song itself, too ^_^
