This singing is beyond mere comment.
It's unbelievable; superb!
It's an example for every aspiring singer and a reminder for him/her to embrace humility and to strive for perfection by studying the material with profound respect.
Thank you SO much for posting this amazing, moving and instructive video.

I think, you are absolutelly right, every single word you wrote.
This is a demostration (a very clear one I might add) that Hermann Prey was a thoughful student of his music.

I generally don't like when opera singers sing lied because it's often with the same kind of histrionics required for opera. But Prey has proven himself an excellent lied singer by virtue of his sensitive interpretation and vocal restraint.

don't like...no emotion!

@kopczas I admit the recording with Karl Engel is fabulous, but I thought this pianist did a rather good job creating a very intimate mood. What don't you like about him?

Hermann is extraordinery here. This pianist is not good enough for Prey. Unfortunatlly...

You wrote "Dictherliebe" instead of "Dichterliebe" in the title.
However, thank you for posting! I love it!

@ekstragrim (about "Ich grolle nicht")
Thanks for uploading this. I almost agree, but i think this Lied is completely passional. He cannot hold the stoiscism of the beginning and it becomes madness, desesperation and pathetic fallacies, big lies, the bigger the closer to the higher note (is this A?). That is passion. Danke Herman, danke Schubert und danke Heine.

This is definitely a gem for Hermann Prey fans - but I totally agree: Ich grolle nicht - is hmm - bizarre, strange, intellectual, without passion, misunderstood, based on an idea - and not the idea of the lied, I'm afraid... sorry Hermann - sorry fans - sorry Schumann
