  • How could this peahen refuse such a spectacular display of affection.... Such beauty and joy, and now the anticipation of new life. How wonderful this beautiful cycle...

Thanks for this fabulous capture, now we await with excitement, the new arrivals.

His tail is exquisite ~ it's simply 'out of this world' No wonder he loves to prance around showing off. He is to magnificent for words. I wish I were a peahen... LOL

  • @CrtnFan21 During the time that the peahen is nesting and showing the chicks around, the peacock is displaying in his territory. It's his job, so to speak, to be available in case any females want or need to mate with him. So the males and females both have specific "jobs." The females only take their peachicks around for about 10 months, after which they part ways...the chicks become independent...and the females mate again with the process repeating itself.

  • @CrtnFan21 The peahens make a nest for their eggs in a hidden area or bush on the ground so that they'll be safe from predators. They sit on their eggs for a whole month, only leaving the nest once a day for food. After they've hatched, they stay with the peahen as she takes them around, shows them how to get food and water, and shows them the ropes in general.

  • @peacocklover27 why not the males as well? P.S. Sorry for so many questions as I am curious.

  • @CrtnFan21 I wouldn't say that. In our society, being faithful in marriage is looked upon as the right thing. In the peacock's society, it's normal behavior for them to mate with whichever female needs or wants to mate with him. It is accepted behavior and the peacocks are not shunned the way a male would be shunned in our society. The peahens themselves sometimes mate with more than one male....this is accepted behavior as well. And the peahens raise the peachicks by themselves.
