置屋嵐山 Arashiyama Okiya is inspired by the 嵐山 Arashiyama district near the outskirts of Western Kyoto, Japan. Literally translated as Storm Mountain, referring to the grand peak that stands behind it on the other side of the Ōi River. The district is famous for Shrines which can be found nearby, a Monkey Park which is residence to over 170 wild monkeys, and the lovely 渡月橋 Togetsukyō or 'Moon Crossing Bridge'. There you may stand and take in stunning views of cherry blossoms in the spring and impressive mountain foliage in the fall. Arashiyama is a beautiful place nearby the hustle and bustle of the city with the humble serene attraction of the Japanese countryside alongside.

We are an Okiya within Second Life, a part of the Miyagawacho Hanamachi and the Hosoi Ichiba Empire. Arashiyama is a Japanese themed 江戸時代 Edo period roleplay group dedicated to the honorable reproduction of Japanese history, notably Geisha and their arts. Or 芸妓 Geiko, as they are known in Kyoto.

In addition to being an Okiya and school for Geisha, we are also an active role-play group with roles for Oiran Tayu, Samurai, Yakuza, patron and more. We are a part of the greater Hosoi Edo Period Japanese role-play known as 'Shadows on the wall'.

Our Ochaya, Tea House, is based on those that real Geisha and their patron frequent. Serene and mysterious, where historical walls tell stories of romance and intrigue that can only be found within the elusive floating world. Join us for an evening that most people will never have a chance to experience. Allow the beauty of the Flower and Willow world to surround you. Listen to the soft voice of a beautiful Geiko as she serves you tea in an elegantly crafted bowl. Watch a dance unfold before your eyes, fans in the graceful hands of delicate Maiko, as they pluck at your heart strings. Return home after a wonderful evening with us blissfully fulfilled having experienced romance, beauty, and art in a setting unlike any other in real life or Second Life.

We are an international Okiya open to members not only from Japan, but all over the world. Due to this, and the nature of Second Life, our primary language for role-play is English. Our members speak a variety of languages, including Japanese and English. While we are a role-play group residing in Second Life, we take our portrayal of the Japanese way of life and Geisha very seriously.

We do our best to represent them with all due respect. Every member is a student of the arts as well as Japanese culture and history. We consider ourselves honorable students and humble members of a greater family. It is our goal to learn, educate, and role-play while enjoying the creative and seductive environment that is the Second Life Floating World. Okiya members go through training much like real Geiko do; studying arts such as music, poetry, dance, culture, and history while honing their skills as entertainers during their time as apprentices.

We hope you will join us, and look forward to sharing our great passion for history and romance with you in the near future. If you are interested in joining the Okiya, or would like an invitation to our exclusive Tea House, please contact Ayaka Okaasan (Katsumiyo Kahane) for further information. あなたに出会えて良かった.
