Dimensional Innovations: AMC Mainstreet

Dimensional Innovations worked as a design assist and specialty fabrication partner to renovate an existing historic theatre in downtown Kansas City. The scope included the creation of a complete interior wayfinding package. Custom illuminated elements include: auditorium surrounds, large scale murals, environmental graphics, animated popcorn concession wall that dances light in sequence with the popping popcorn, jewel box presentation of the popcorn popper and an innovative shadow box concession presentation to replace menu boards. All of these custom pieces were constructed using high-end finishes including routed acrylic, edge lighting with customizable lighting effects and multiple layer vinyl applications.

Additionally, this custom theatre includes a new experience for moviegoers, Cinemas Suites. Cinema Suites creates an upscale dinner and a movie experience with plush reclining chairs and full bar and food service right at your seat. To complete the dinner and a movie package, AMC needed a custom table and tray component. This innovative piece was designed to facilitate storage, lighting for menus and eating, call buttons for servers and a tray for convenient eating. The tables have LED lighting that washes over the lower shelf, which is used for storage of personal items (purses, coats, etc) during the movie. The lamp on the top of the tables have LED lighting that changes from a constant white glow to a red glow when the attendant button is pushed. The attendant button is linked to a wireless computer system that notifies the servers on a flat screen display with a seating chart, which patron needs attention. The down light inside of the lamp gives a subtle wash of light on the surface of the table, allowing for menu reading and signing of your tab during the movie. However, the placement of the light (just behind your peripheral vision) does not detract from the movie going experience. The lighting is also designed to wash and backlight both the AMC Theatre logo and Cinema Suites logo for brand reinforcement. Finally, a frosted swiveling plex tray and cup holder swings in front of the patron for a comfortable and convenient way to eat your meal.
