This is a video showing a day in the life of a zoo keeper. Most people are under the impression that zoo keepers work in the background making sure everything runs smoothly in a zoo or wildlife centre. Whilst this is true to an extent there is also much more to being a zoo keeper like interacting with the public and focusing efforts on the continuing conservation of multiple animal species.

This is Mark and he is one of the keepers at the Cotswold wildlife park. He has done many years of conservation training and studied an environmental conservation course achieving a national diploma. He then explains how his passion for conservation and animals drove him to further his education and gain an honours degree.

Mark explains the details of feeding the variety of animals around the wildlife park and discusses the importance of the animals getting the correct nutrition on a daily basis. He also talks about his role in conservation and how a modern day zoo keeper needs a scientific background rather than just a love for animals.

Studying an environmental conservation course is a great way to kick start your career as a zoo keeper. Conservation courses are available at institutions such as East Durham College. East Durham College offers a wide range of conservation courses and offers a variety of qualifications. If you are interested in some environmental conservation training then feel free to visit our website!
