Female student fatally shot at Dillard High - Police report

A teenage girl was fatally shot in a hallway outside a computer lab at Dillard High in Fort Lauderdale Wednesday, The Miami Herald has learned.
Another female student, a 15-year-old armed with a gun, was taken into custody at a restaurant within walking distance of the school, police said.
Police would not confirm whether the victim was shot, said Sgt. Frank Sousa, a department spokesman. Her identity has not been released.
Several sources, including a city spokesman, confirmed that the girl died shortly before 1 p.m.
Details are sketchy, but the victim was found unresponsive in a hallway outside of the computer lab.
Miami Herald news partners WFOR-CBS 4 obtained footage of the girl being wheeled into Broward General Medical Center shortly before noon. Paramedics and doctors were seen trying to resuscitate the girl, who was wearing a purple shirt and khaki shorts.
Joe Melita, the school district's chief investigator, confirmed that an investigation is underway regarding a possible shooting on campus.
Another female student, a 15-year-old armed with a gun, is in police custody, detained at Captain Crab's Take-Away, a restaurant within walking distance of the school.
According to police, a student approached a school resource officer at 11 a.m., saying that a girl was lying in the hallway.
Fire rescue and police responded.
The girl was rushed to the hospital. Police said they were unsure if she was shot, saying that a ''full-body evaluation'' had not been completed yet.
The alleged shooter was found at the nearby restaurant, with a chrome, semiautomatic handgun. Someone there alerted police she was there, Sousa said.
Dillard High, an arts and technology magnet at 2501 NW 11th St., was on lockdown as police investigate. Classes are in progress, police said.
Police say the incident was ''isolated'' and only involved the two girls.
Shortly before noon, parents began arriving at the school after hearing news reports of the possible shooting.
Louise Mathis said she was worried about her daughter and niece, both 16, who are students at the magnet school.
''There is always something going on in this school,'' she said. ``How do they get into the school with a gun?''

Quit spouting off about culture any time you think it's appropriate just because it's fun to hate America.
