"Leonard Cohen Live Fra Roskilde Festival '88"
Singers: Perla Batalla and Julie Christensen
Oud: John BIlezikjian
Setlist of the TV broadcast was:
1. Dance Me To The End Of Love
2. Everybody Knows
3. First We Take Manhattan
4. Take This Waltz
5. Hallelujah
6. Suzanne
"First We Take Manhattan" was released on 1988 I'm Your Man LP, in quasi-synthpop version following Jennifer Warnes' Eurodisco influenced arrangements. Warnes performed early version of the song on her 1987 LP Famous Blue Raincoat: The Songs of Leonard Cohen.
New, funky live arrangement was suggested by backing singers in 1988, and Cohen performed the song this way on all his subsequent tours in 1992, 2008 and 2009.
It was a great concert. Noone has put Take this Waltz on UT?

Leonard always sings out of tune. He admits he is not a singer, but a poet. But I still really like this clip. I like the older concerts better- with Julie and Perla. Now those ladies could sing! Thanks for the post.

Not the best sound on this video but I remember the concert. Especially First we take manhattan, a song he played twice that night and the second time was amazing.

He sounds a lot better on this tour on that song than he did there...he's sharp a lot.
