Dianna (K69) spends a long time on the West End nest on Catalina Island, that she shares with her mate, K01, and another female, Wray. Most of the time is peaceful, and everyone watching is hoping that she's getting ready to lay her first egg of the 2008 season, but at 8:05am, she begin calling out at something flying around her. Could it be to ravens who are known to harrass this nest? Could it be to an unwanted eagle? We see an eagle fly behind the nest at 2:26 into the video. Is it one of her nestmates? If it is, it doesn't join her on the nest. Or perhaps an unwanted eagle getting too close to her nest?
These eagles are part of the ongoing restoration project by IWS. You can read about the struggle to reintroduce America's symbol, the Bald Eagle, to the Channel Islands as well as watch this miracle of nature via live eagle-cam by going to http://www.iws.org and clicking first on 'interactive' and then choosing one of the nests to view on Catalina Island and Santa Cruz Island or go to: http://z7.invisionfree.com/CHIL_EagleCAM/index.php?act=idx
