If you can try and work with a company or shop that is based in your country it's much easier to return something that's not good enough..I have been tying flies for almost 29 years so I have built up some good materials from all over the U.K and from abroad and even Ebay.. I'll send you some links to ones that I have used with no problems...

Any of the subs which the fly tying companies that I have seen are all wrong especially in the thickness, they are all too thick and coarse but if you look in any of the sewing shops and ask for a darning wool close to the colour I used you'll find that they are much finer and easier to use, it's worth trying..

II use a Sony PD170p which is not quite a normal camcorder it has a few extras, I use small lenses which screw on to the lense which act like a magnifier giving me +1 to +2 this is what gives me the close up I want maybe your camera can do the same they are not expensive..I hope this is of some help to you, please let me know how you get on..

Davie I learning how to make extended body, seen the video of your spent A.K. best and I need to now specifically what pattern do you follow.

Hi Lars,

When you are doing the whip finish try and not wind the turns too tight as they will stick, then when you pull the knot at the end this will tighten the knot and another thing three turns are enough..

Hello Mr. McPhail,

It seems as if you have the "elastic" copper wire. Mine tends to break, particularly if I attempt to whip finish like you do.
