Til' the Last Shot's Fired by Trace Adkins and the West Point Glee Club at the Academy of Country Music Awards 2009

Military tribute to all American soldiers who fought in all wars.
Lyrics:

I wa there in the winter of '64
when we camped in the ice
at Nashvilles doors
Three hundred miles our trail had led
We barely had thme to bury our dead
when the Yankees charged and the colors fell
Overton hill was a living hell
When we called retreat it was almost dark
I died with a grapeshot in my heart

Say a prayer for peace
For every fallen son
Set my spirit free
Let me lay doen my gun
Seet mother Mary im so tired
But I camt come home 'til
the last shot's fired

In June of 1944
I waited in the blood of Omaha's shores
Tewnty-one and scared to death
My heart poundin in my chest
I almost made the first seawall
When my friends turned and saw me fall
I still smell the smoke, I can taste the mud
As I lay there dying from a loss of blood

Im in the fields of vietnam
The mountians of Afghanistan
And I'm still hopin', waitin', prayin'
I did not die in vain

Say a prayer for peace (for peace)
for our daughters and our sons
Set our spirits free (set us free)
Let us lay doen our guns

Sweet mother Mary im so tired
But we cant come home (no
we cant come home)

'Til the Last Shots Fired

THANKS TO ALL OUR TROOPS

  • @heavyarms01h "say, or do*" Sorry. >_<;

  • @MitchIpson It's sad that so many people take soldiers for granted without even thinking about how hard it is to live a military life or that these people volunteered to go. You can't say do so many things civilians take for granted. When everything goes to Hell, you don't get the luxury of running away. You may not even get a "thank you." And still you keep your head up, because you're the one who can take it. Sometimes, it seems like suffering is the lot of those who walk a hero's path.

  • Its not that we cant come home. It's that we WON'T come home till the last shot's fired. My ancestors fought. My grandfather fought my father fought. I'm only saddend by the fact that i wont be able to. I tried but i couldn't cut it. Drive on brothers, drive on sisters. HOOAH!!!

  • This song is so powerful... every time I listen to it I am filled with great emotion. I think about my ancestors who served and some KIA. So have given so much to protect my freedom. I will never forget!

  • I'm so crying right now. This song is so poignant and I am so very thankful for the sacrifice of our soldiers. You might not pay with your physical lives but you sacrifice plenty. God bless.
