What can change the nature of a man? One answer might very well be Black Isle's Planescape: Torment, a Platinum Age masterpiece of the late 90s. It is, after all, on the short list of the best ever CRPGs, but it really stands in a class by itself. Built with Bioware's infinity engine (the same used for Baldur's Gate), Planescape: Torment avoids fantasy clichés like elves and dragons, opting instead for a more surrealistic, metaphysical setting and some truly disturbed characters. It's one of my favorites, and I hope you'll enjoy my coverage. As always, if you like the video, please rate it, leave a nice comment, and consider subscribing to my channel. Feel free to link or embed this or any of my videos in your blog or website.

Please note that my inattention to Baldur's Gate is intentional--I plan to dedicate a future episode to that game and don't want to spoil any surprises!

  • awesome game that first got me into computer rpgs. i originally picked this up after beating final fantasy 7 for ps1 because i randomly saw it in a store and thought it would be a nice change of pace to eat up some of my spare time. little did i know it would actually rival ff7 as the greatest game i've ever played. i still give the slight edge to ff7, but damn planescape torment took me by surprise and introduced me to other great pc games as well.

  • I wonder if you would have liked PS better if you had played it before ever seeing FF7. That seems to be the case for some people, at least. I will have to do a show on FF7 at some point.

  • Planescape Torment was awesomely awesome. I would even go as far as saying I enjoyed Planescape Torment more than Fallout or Baldur's Gate series. My pick for best RPG of all time.. or atleast my favorite RPG of all time. Pretty darn good video and I definetily have to check more of your videos. Subscribed.

  • Thanks! Much appreciated.

  • @blacklily8 in the description it says you're going to do a post on Baldur's Gate. Is that still in the works? I think you could even do a post on both the 1st and second one, since the second one is a classic in its own right (probably my favorite fantasy RPG). Anyways, looking forward to it. Keep up the great vids.

  • @matternicuss I planned to do BG for my 100th episode. Thanks for the comment!

  • 12 WIS?! this is barbarism

  • This game helped turn me back onto Western RPGs in a big way and I was glad for that as I ended up playing and loving Baldur's gate 1 and 2, Ultima VII: black gate and serpents isle, Gothic 1 and 2, Fallout 1 and 2, Might and Magic 4 and 5, and so on. and I will always love it for that as I would of missed out on so many wonderful RPGs .(oddly enough I just bought most of those games again on GOG since I lost my originals in a move two years back)

  • Wisdom is the single best stat.

  • How can I get a copy of this today? I found what looks like an emulator copy on Home of the Underdogs, but does Interplay still print (or have someone else print) copies?

  • @cloudpierre FFVII is the most overrated game of all time. It wasn't even the best Final Fantasy game (IV and VI were the best), let alone RPG.

  • I see you have Return to Mysterious Island in your collection.

I beat the first and the second one but i still fell they came out being too short.

  • @blacklily8 I for one wouldn't mind a video on FF6 Advance. Your call obviously.

  • @cloudpierre you sir are blessed

  • Just played Planescape: Torment the last spring and it was really the strongest gameexperience I've ever had. Together with mass effect it's one of the most interesting gameworlds I've ever seen.
