im not a big fan of defensive players but anybody who says being defensive is a waste of time, ur defo wrong joo is a very gd player defensive or offensive
btw, mr tyoungos, if you played with Joo you probably wouldn't be able to get the ball over the net. Joo's backspin chops are extremely heavy and pressures their opponents to push and lift, which he then counter drives to take the point
Joo's "modern" chopper style is nothing new, young man! He's just a Korean re-invention of the famous Chinese chopper Ting Song in 1990's. Like Joo, Ting Song beat some of the world's top players of his time including Jan-Ove Waldner & Jörgen Persson, and yet didn't win any gold medal from any event in WTTC. After 4 decades of international TT experience, the Chinese realize that a defensive chopper style of any kind simply doesn't work a fool's game. No more chopper to present China!
in case you don't know what "modern" defensive play means, it means that the defensive player attacks just as well as any other offensive player, only difference is he uses heavy underspin balls to set up his drives. Ding Song was Joo's idol, but he was a CLASSIC defender, he would only attack loose balls and chop all the way. Joo attacks ANY pushes that his opponents makes, thats why his opponents have no choice but to continue looping at him until they are forced to push again
btw, you say China realize def style doesnt work a fool's game...thats y there are no more choppers to represent China?
Dude...like i said, you dont know CRAP about table tennis. WHY are there less defenders now? its not because the style doesn't work, its just harder and takes longer to develop. pros take HOURS n hours every day developing offensive skills....now plus defensive world class skills on top of offensive training...foot work, low chops, floats...kids can't learn def too early too
Defensive table tennis is a fool's game. It may make you look unusual, but it is not practical. Sun Tzu's The Art of War says, "Frequent defense leads one to a loss..... When you defend everywhere, you are weak everywhere..... The best defense is offense."
dude...you know NOTHING about table tennis. take your art of war theory to a real war zone...Joo se hyuk is a modern defender, This match was a long time ago. Joo beat ma lin a good number of times and just recently beat world no 2 Ma long in the China vs world Tournament. So don't talk crap and say defensive table tennis is a fools game
well, not true...you always have a chance to attack and some instances in the video you can see he doesn't attach when he can...point is he needs to learn to attack some returns :)
