COOKING WITH MMM... MAMA LIKEY! Italian Hamburger Casserole

1 pound lean ground beef
2 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoon pepper
2 garlic cloves, chopped
2 2/3 cups water
2/3 cup milk
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon salt, if desired
1/4 fresh onion, chopped
2 2/3 cups instant mashed potatoes (dry)
3/4 can of tomatoe sauce (Hunts)
1/2 bag mozzarella cheese

Break hamburger into small clumps, mince garlic, mince onion -- add to skillet. Add oil. Brown over medium heat.

Brown hamburger, oil, onion, and garlic. At the same time, make instant mashed potatoes. When both are ready, grease baking pan. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Layer ingredients. 1st layer: mashed potatoes. 2nd layer: ground beef mixture. 3rd layer: tomatoe sauce. 4th layer: mozzerella cheese.

Bake for 30-35 minutes. Let cool. Enjoy!

This is very similar to my italian caserole, only my potatoes are on top, and I mix in a can or two of green beens and a can of mushrooms with my meat and sauce. Try it!!! And if you put the potatoes on top, they get crusty, which is quite delicious!!!
