I'm just guessing here, but maybe the production was at some point when the 450d was already announced but not really published.
True tho, using the 450d would have been a very cool touch.

what were their lenses?

because of the low burst of 3.5fps, so i think they cannot really replicate a "stop motion" with that low fps.

longer bursts and higher MP i would imagine

i would have been even MORE impressed if they had taken those photos with the specific product... the rebel and not the 1d mkIII.
But i guess you need those 10fps if you're going to make something like that work.
