India Plane Crash at Mangalore Boeing 737 CNN reports

At least 60 people were killed when an Air India Express flight from Dubai with 173 on board crashed before landing at Kenjar, near the newly built runway in Mangalore this morning, and caught fire, a senior police official said.

The flight IX-892, operated by a Boeing 737-800, had 163 passengers, four infants and six crew members on board.

"The crash happened while landing and the aircraft immediately caught fire," Karnataka state home minister VS Acharya told PTI. Acharya said there may be only five to six survivors.

ILS, Instrument LAnding System guides pilot to approach the runway with a specific landing approach angle with an inbound course of angle.It also supports the pilot by localizing the the plane with respect to the distance from the runway. There are three possibilities to miss the touch down point of the aircraft- 1.ILS at Mangalore was non-ops at that moment.2. the pilot did not follow the ILS.3. the pilot was not well versed with this particular airport and its intricacies.

airport should not have any dig in side of the runway., if there was not a dig-- atleast people would have saved...... so sad.

very sad....it is one of the scareist runway in India.only experienced pilots can do a good landing
