HOOKED ON COMIX - Life on the Cutting Edge of an All-American Art Form (Volume 1) was released in the mid 90's during the height of the second generation of alternative or underground cartooning. HOOKED ON COMIX is an entertaining documentary that delves into the dedicated and creative minds behind some of the best work in contemporary comics. It showcases Daniel Clowes (Eightball), Los Bros. Hernandez (Love & Rockets), Julie Doucet (Dirty Plotte), Jim Woodring (Jim) and over a dozen other cartoonists. Shot in Seattle during the height of the Grunge Rock movement, this hour-long DVD also features music by Bikini Kill and footage of Beat Happening. @bitzeepapa To quote Neil Gaiman, "comics are a MEDIUM mistaken for a GENRE"...I think maybe the big two have started to realise a tiny bit--Marvel put out that "Strange Tales" collection with strips by all the prominent "alternative" cartoonists taking on their biggest characters...check it out if you haven't already, it's worth it for Peter Bagge's Hulk story alone. All the best to you!

when the big companies like DC and Marvel see that alternative comics are so great and so deep, they inevitably unload their meaningless bullshit movies to the mainstream to make sure that the mass populace still can't differentiate comic books from superheroes.
