Kind of creepy that a treadmill wanted us dead...

Cave Johnson: "Alright, i've found a way to make all you fatties out there get some fitness. You like music, you like games. You like music from games. So we invented this. Only problem is it gives you tumors. We're not even sure how in the world a treadmill can give somebody tumors. Cave Johnson, we're done here."
So does this interact with some kind of sound and display controller or something in the treadmill with an external microcontroller or something or does it run completely on the original hardware (with different ROM of course)? Or did you completely just rewire the displays and speaker and everything?

@Aeduo Most of the hardware is the same. The 8051-clone CPU was replaced by a dsPIC30F4011. Other than that, the original refresh logic and segment drivers are still there. I had to replace the CPU because I couldn't find a flash programmer (or a suitable ROM) to replace the original.

This is cool, but is there any reason the speed display is freaking out?

@mumbo666 The speed display is showing junk because nothing is controlling it in this program. So, it happens to get whatever data was output during the end of the previous refresh cycle (the last letter in this case). I have another program that controls the speed display as well as the text, but there was no need to copy that functionality into this program.
