  • 'favorite' is actually 3 syllables.

  • 2) You have completely missed the most fundamental aspect of a haiku - that two contrasting or complementary ideas are presented together without comment so that the reader can explore the link in their own mind.

    3) "Haiku are deep". Hmm. Haiku are extremely simple. They leave the reader to find deepness.

    3) "Incorporates nature". Only be coincidence. Traditionally they contain a word indicating a season and this is often a nature word but doesn't have to be.

  • This is so far from describing haiku as to be laughable - except that all this misinformation is being fed to children.

    1) The 5-7-5 pattern is NOT syllables. What's being counted in Japanese is closer to our idea of letter than syllable. For better or worse, English-language haiku poets gave up using the 5-7-5 syllable pattern in the 1970s. Most modern English haiku are between 6 and 12 syllables in total.
