Do you know this book? Have you read it?

Glamour addiction: inside the American ballroom dance industry by Juliet E. McMains. I think the writer understands our feelings.

If you're suggesting that these people don't know how to dance then you're level of ignorance is reaching mind boggling levels. All of these dancers (even the worse ones) are technically far more advanced than ANY social samba dancer I've seen, and lead their girls much better as well. The only key difference is following the rhythm of the music instead of the beat, but that isn't a problem once you take away the competitive enviroment.

  • @Lia137

And no, neither of the dance style is "so much better". They're just different. This should be obvious to anyone who realizes the difference between social and competitive dancing. Really, it's not rocket science.

You also have a huge lack of faith in the strength of your culture if the international ballroom and latin discplines somehow manage to kill the root of their origins that have existed for far longer.

  • @Lia137

This is the national championships for USA, and IIRC they had around 40-50 couples dancing in this category alone. In addition the most respected international competitions draw hundreds of couples per bracket, so yeah, a lot of people want to compete in these "trash competitions". I watched your links, and they once again provided watered down form of international latin.

  • By the way, it seems that they are not killing the samba. They are doing the same with Tango, a marvelous dance.

Yah, you're write! As always, the world is wrong.

Tango, for you, is called International Tango....very well and you think that your criation is much better....

  • This is SAMBA:

    Finally a Brazilian Samba:

And, who wants to compete in this trash competition. First of all, the dancers have to unlearn how to dance!
